Las 48 leyes del poder
Published in Paperback by Atlantida Publishing (October, 1998)
Authors: Robert Greene and Joost Elffers
Average review score:

nine years amoung the indians
This is the best book I have ever read. I am a friend of Herman Lehmann's half sister's great grand son so this book means so very much to me. I am very interested in getting a copy of the original book. This book really reveals the true life of the early settlers and the life of the indians. I just cannot read enough about this subject. This book makes me understand what our forefather must have gone through to make our lives and this world a better place to live.

Last Word and Other Stories
Published in Hardcover by Tx Bookman Remainders ()
Author: Graham Greene
Average review score:

A must-have for the Greene addict
For we, myself included, who number among those addicted to the writing of Greene, this volume of collected stories truly falls into the 'must-have' category. Spanning almost his entire career, this represents a broad variety of stylistic and narrative approaches employed.

As an introduction to Greene, though, this may be relatively less ideal. Perhaps better might be one of his novels, or for something lighter, one of his entertainments. Though the breadth and depth of variation apparent in Greene's work is well-represented here, a better feel for the true character of his writing might be found more readily in others of his works: simply put, I really don't think the medium of a short story allows the unfamiliar reader to sufficiently develop the rich relationship with the material that I find myself desiring.

Regardless of that, this an outstanding collection of stories, the title story ("The Last Word") being one that I find particularly poignant. This volume is a very fine assemblage of material, and possesses a sense of overarching thematic unity which renders it both comparatively cohesive (in terms of short-story collections) and a joy to read. Highly recommended.

GREAT INFO AND PICS!
This is the best Lauryn bio yet! I own her 3 others (she's got that thing, my rules, and heart of soul), and this one is the best by far, no so much for the information, but for the pictures! It's full of really good, and rare pics of our girl. It has her performing at concerts, Accepting awards and performing at award shows, and candids of her in general!....They're all in color, and glossy! this book is really great I reccomend it to ANY fan!

Leo the Lioness

Author: Constance C. Greene
Average review score:

Leo the Lioness- a very good book
In Leo the Linoness, you can really relate to the book. The book is about a girl named Tibb, who loves the Zodiac. She is a Leo, and she decides that that is the strongest sign in the zodiac. She has a sister named Nina, and the best mom ever. But in summer, her ex-best friend turns into a boy [lover]. And her sisters attitude is ridiculous. On top of that, her old baby-sitter is getting married. It is a humerous story of a thirteenth summer. It is a must read. It is geat for kids 9-15, I personaly think. It is a very good book, and I think that you would enjoy it.

a must read
I had to read this for government, it is worth the time. It goes in depth about books banned; art of love, casndide, dubliners, the handmaid's tale, judge the obscure, lolita, madame bovary, and women in love. The sad fact is that there are millions of book lost by the surpression of a few, with it went our first amendment rights!

Sister getting in the way?
As the first young adult title I've ever read (and I was 12 at that time), this book holds a special place in my heart. Every single page is like watching a teen movie; I just couldn't put it down! This, and many other titles in the series, should all be republished for future generations to enjoy.

London After the Bomb: What a Nuclear Attack Really Means (Oxford Paperbacks)
Published in Hardcover by Oxford Univ Pr (December, 1993)
Author: Owen Greene
Average review score:

Essential if you're concerned about nuclear proliferation
I picked up this small and unassuming volume in a secondhandbookshop in Dublin. Written by a team of five research students in the early 80s, it details the likely consequences of a nuclear attack on London, based on conditions specified by a 1980 simulation carried out by the British government (Operation Square Leg).

The consequences are appalling. Having grown up in the 80s, constantly aware of the late-Cold War nuclear standoff (and old enough and half-English enough to remember the British Home Office's notorious "Protect and Survive" handbook on what to do in the event of a nuclear holocaust), this book strikes very close to home for me. As indeed it would for anyone else aware of the number of countries in the world with a nuclear arsenal.

The book clearly demonstrates that even with a relatively limited attack such as was assumed in Square Leg (five fairly low-yield bursts around the periphery of Greater London), the majority of the population of London would be dead within a few months - using 1977 census figures, that's 5 out of 7 million people! - and a great majority of the rest would suffer from a variety of radiation-related illnesses, mostly leukaemia. The infrastructure (medical care, power, water, waste disposal) would be rendered useless, civil power would be in the hands of the military, food would be scarce to the point of unavailable, and there would not be enough hospital beds in the rest of Britain to cope with all the curable wounded.

Now that the START II treaty has limited the nuclear capacity of the two major superpowers, and Britain's participation in the arms race has been cut down greatly from its mid-80s peak, the chance of a nuclear war between the US and Russia has been greatly reduced. But this is still a vital book for anyone who still believes that even a tactical nuclear exchange would not escalate, and that a major nuclear exchange could possibly be in any way "survivable". Any exchange of nuclear weapons threatens the survival of life on this planet. It must never happen; the cost of such a thing is scrupulously accounted in this book.

Good look hunting down a copy, though.
